Council Appoints Arts Officer

Wexford County Council has today announced the appointment of Arts Officer Ms. Liz Burns to its staff. Ms. Burns was previously Arts Programme Manager for Fire Station Artists’ Studios in Dublin and also operates an independent curatorial practice.

Ms. Burns’ previous role in Fire Station Studios involved supporting socially engaged/collaborative arts practice through art commissions, talks and publications. It also included the management of a skills training programme for artists, artists’ awards, and residencies, a mentoring programme in partnership with Arts & Disability Ireland, the promotion of international opportunities for Irish artists through international exchanges and an international curator in residence programme.

Ms. Burns completed her MA in Visual Arts Practices with IADT in 2009-10 (Curation). She is currently Chair of Arts & Disability Ireland (ADI) – the national development and resource organisation for arts and disability. Prior to Fire Station she worked as Outreach Officer with Tallaght Community Arts Centre Dublin. She has sat on numerous arts panels including Arts Council, Dublin City Council Arts Office,  OPW, CREATE and Visual Artists Ireland and has been guest lecturer in NCAD, DIT, IADT and MA Space Limerick as well as Otis MFA in Los Angeles.

Director of Services at Wexford County Council John Carley welcomed the appointment of Ms. Burns, saying “Ms. Burns’ impressive track record speaks for itself and her appointment confirms the Council’s commitment to our on-going Arts Services programme and the implementation by the Council of strategic actions to help develop the Arts locally”

 

Ms. Burns is due to take up her appointment in early October.
