Large Turnout for the Annual Wexford Chamber Golf Classic

Stephen Hunt Wins Longest Drive in Wexford Chamber Golf Classic

The annual Wexford Chamber Golf Classic in association with Console took place in Wexford Golf Club last Friday 7th June.

A large turnout on what was a fantastic day of weather and golf means that Wexford Chamber once again are in the fortunate position of making a sizeable donation to Console.  Console is  the national organization which supports people in suicidal crisis and those bereaved by suicide through professional counseling, support and helpline services.  Denis O’Connor, Director of Console Wexford, said “any funds raised in Wexford will stay in Wexford and the financial support we receive as a result of events such as the Wexford Chamber Golf Classic are so important to the work we do in Wexford.  We are very grateful to everybody who both organized and participated in this fundraiser”.
Wexford Golf Club proved to be a fabulous venue.  The course was in pristine condition which allowed some high scores to be achieved.  The golfers were well fed in  Séasuir Restaurant, with food prepared by local chef Phelam Byrne.  John Stewart provided a great evening’s musical entertainment and in addition made a generous donation to the charity.
The competition itself was followed by a prize giving presentation in the club house.  Lady Captain, Martina Dempsey, thanked Wexford Chamber for choosing Wexford Golf Club on this occasion and hoped that everybody had enjoyed the day.   GUI winning team was Wexford G.C., 2nd Wexford Creamery and 3rd Maggie Mays.  Non GUI winning team was Park 100 Fire & Safety, 2nd Wexford Hospital and 3rd Wexford Chamber.  Nearest Pin winner was Darren Robinson of Danone Nutricia and Longest Drive went to Stephen Hunt of Wolverhampton Wanderers and Republic of Ireland fame who out drove everybody with a fantastic 300 yards plus drive off the 10th tee.

Fantastic prizes, generous sponsors, 19 teams, excellent conditions, great raffle, the best of entertainment and fabulous company.  Well done to John Dempsey of Wexford Chamber who did an excellent  job in coordinating what was a great day.
